Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp
Do you have a great idea for a screenplay, but have no idea how to go about executing it? Just how difficult is it to make a movie, from initial concept to final cut? And how do you break into the industry?
At the one-day Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp (www.filmboot.com), you can get “real world” guidance from the pros. At previous boot camps, three students have walked away with deals for their dream projects. Are you next? Learn how to write and direct your own low-budget feature, gain insights about the “business” of the business and be guided through the steps of prepping, producing, finishing and delivering a film.
And here’s the icing on the cake: at the end of the day, everyone will have an opportunity to pitch ideas to the featured speakers in the film industry, giving everyone the possibility of actually securing a deal for their dream project! All take place on Saturday, November 4, in the second-floor theater at the Cedar Lane Cinemas. Registration fee: $150.
Speakers include producer Larry Meistrich (“Sling Blade,” “You Can Count on Me” and many more) and writer/producer/director Dave Gebroe. We should mention, by the way, that we’ve greatly benefited from Larry Meistrich’s advice and guidance throughout the film festival planning process. Dave Gebroe’s newest feature, “Zombie Honeymoon”—which he wrote, directed, and produced—has been well-received at prestigious festivals around the world.

And Because You Have to Eat, Too…

Teaneck’s international flavor abounds throughout a wide array of restaurants – catering to all tastes and all budgets. Not so coincidentally, International Restaurant Week takes place here October 30 to November 5, and there’ll be special menus and discounts available in addition to the restaurants’ regular, fabulous fare. So if you’re looking for lunch, dinner or a pre- or post-film snack or refreshments, do look for participating Restaurant Week eateries all around town. You’ll find them listed on our web site, www.teaneckfilmfestival.org. Restaurant Week and the Film Festival: delicious together.

Teaneck Intl. Film Festival Details
The festival will present more than a dozen feature-length films, documentaries, and shorts as well as award-winning student films, a one-day Aspiring Filmmakers Boot Camp (www.filmboot.com) plus Q&As with filmmakers, parties and more. Festivities will get under way on Thursday night, Nov. 2, at a gala, by-invitation-only, kickoff party at Lounge Zen for sponsors and supporters.
Films will be presented in three venues: at the Cedar Lane Cinemas, 503 Cedar Lane, the DanceArt Creative Center, 519 Cedar Lane in Teaneck and Puffin Cultural Forum, 20 East Oakdene Ave., Teaneck. Tickets: $5 per person. One-day passes: $12.50. Weekend passes: $25. (As if you didn’t have incentive for getting passes…they will get you entry to the dessert party at Cherries Restaurant on Sunday, Nov. 5, 5 to 7 p.m. sponsored by the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce. A full schedule will be posted shortly.
