when i was a kid growing up on bender place a dead end street we use to walk to the end of the street, climb over the wall and go down the " cliff". this is actually the border between cliffside and edgewater. we used to build forts here and make fires etc.people always told us that there was once a movie house here. we thought they were talking about a movie house were you sat down to view movies but later we found out it was a movie studio where films where made. an old woman on the street says she remembers charlie chaplin walking down bender place to get to the studio and another friend of mine said he once saw a PBS special about this studio. the only house on the street was the house on the top of the street across from todays GILLS TAVERN. it was used as a dresiing room for actors and they walked down the street to the studio. i can find no info about this and wonder if it is true. one day probably around 1960 when i was 10 i found a reel of film playing on the grounds. i wonder what was on it? we simply played with it and threw it away. does anyone know anything about this studio and the supposedlly PBS special about it? joe colagreco
